ARTIST STATEMENT | |
| My goal is for my art to have a social purpose; to inform, provoke thoughts or inspire. I am constantly searching to create different forms and styles that speak about truth and possibility. Art for me is a language. It is a way to communicate my thoughts, hopes and dreams. My primary medium is collage. I incorporate abstract element into the work. Found objects and mix medium are use as a means to an end. This allows me to explore many creative possibilities without limitation. My work has a figurative style incorporating my drawing and painting. Creating images of everyday life. These paintings tell stories that are reflective of the culture and history of my community. There are many stories that haven't been told and many voices that haven't heard. Figurative style allows me to tell these stories to a broader audience. Currently I am creating a new series of works about my family roots in the south. I looking at the past history and how they relate to me now in the present living in Los Angeles. As I grow in my work I feel the art will eventually evolve into more into assemblage or sculptures while still including drawing and painting. |
